Raleigh is often referred to as the 'City of Oaks' for the many oak trees that line its streets. Named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who established the lost Roanoke Colony in present-day Dare County, it is one of the fastest growing cities in the USA. An early example of a planned city in the United States, it is home to numerous cultural, educational, and historic sites.
